Winter in Tsukumi begins with flavors shaped by the sea.
The popular annual “Tsukumi Moika Squid (Aori-ika) Festival” will be held again this year!
From November 15, 2025 to January 31, 2026, participating restaurants throughout Tsukumi City will offer special dishes featuring moika squid—fresh, in-season bigfin reef squid.
Based on the spirit of “local production for local consumption,” this special gourmet event is a collaboration between local fishermen, the fishery cooperative, and Tsukumi’s chefs. Freshly caught moika squid is carefully handled by the cooperative and transformed into exquisite dishes by skilled local cooks.
With its natural sweetness and pleasantly chewy texture, moika squid is truly exceptional.
This year, the festival will also feature a collaborative event, “Yokozuna,” referring to Bungo Maguro Yokozuna, Tsukumi’s premium brand of bluefin tuna, and held together with local snack bars and izakaya.
