Nanase no Homura Festival
The Summer of Nanase, Ablaze with Passion
The Nanase no Homura Festival is a community festival themed around “Fire, Water, History, and Hometown.” Centered on the traditional Hashiramatsu and Mantoro events that have long been passed down in the Wasada area, the festival was first held in 2000 with the goal of creating a new community-led celebration. The word “Homura” signifies the “flame of passion,” reflecting the enthusiasm and spirit of local residents.
Festival highlights include the Hashiramatsu competition, in which teams from the eight school districts of the Wasada area compete to ignite fireworks attached to a bundle of straw and pine needles mounted atop an approximately 11-meter-high pole by throwing flaming torches. Another spectacular attraction is the Mantoro, where countless lanterns illuminate both banks of the Nanase River for nearly 2 kilometers, creating a magical summer nightscape.
