Visit Oita

Mt. Yufu, a strikingly beautiful active volcano standing at 1,583 meters, is one of Oita’s most iconic mountains. Known for its elegant twin peaks, it offers a variety of breathtaking views throughout the year – vivid blooms in spring, fiery autumn foliage, and a serene snow-covered landscape in winter. The mountain features trails suitable for both beginners and experienced climbers, with the summit providing panoramic views of the Yufuin Basin and even Beppu Bay in the distance. Every May, the "Mt. Yufu Opening Ceremony" is held to pray for climbers' safety, drawing many visitors with events such as commemorative gifts and performances by the Self-Defense Forces band.
At the foot of the mountain, expansive rural landscapes blend harmoniously with the graceful presence of Mt. Yufu, creating a picturesque scene. The mountain’s majestic silhouette can also be admired from the nearby onsen town, where visitors can soak in the onsen while savoring the view, offering a truly luxurious and peaceful experience.
