Path of History and Literature
Experience Saiki’s history and literature along a white-walled street associated with literary masters
The "Path of History and Literature" is a quaint cobblestone road lined with white-walled mansions, leading to the foot of Shiroyama, where Saiki Castle once stood. The street retains the Japanese townscape of approx. 200 years ago, allowing you to stroll along it while feeling the leisurely flow of time. The Sannomaru Yaguramon Gate, located midway along the path, is a precious building that preserves the castle's original appearance and a strong historical atmosphere.
Another highlight is the Kunikida Doppo Museum, associated with the author Kunikida Doppo. His works, which meticulously depict nature and the human heart, convey the appeal of Japanese literature to the world. Furthermore, he has been featured in the popular anime "Bungo Stray Dogs," drawing renewed attention both domestically and internationally. Walking under the dappled sunlight, try to imagine the landscapes Doppo gazed upon. Saiki's history and literature come alive in the tranquility.
