Kawazu cherry blossoms are known for blooming early, and in early February the approx. 5,000 trees on the northern side of the Youra Peninsula begin flowering, slowly reaching full bloom over the course of about a month, and paint the landscape with their vibrant hues. The best time to visit is when the trees are 60–80% in bloom, as their beauty is particularly striking. Compared to other cherry blossoms, Kawazu cherry blossoms have a deeper pink color that contrasts beautifully with the blue sky and sea on sunny days, creating a picturesque scene. These blossoms have been cultivated since 2005, thanks to efforts by local residents, and the area has now become the largest Kawazu cherry blossom site in Oita Prefecture.

During this period of time when the cherry blossoms are blooming, the Bungo Channel Kawazu Cherry Blossom Festival is held, featuring stalls selling local specialties and snacks. The Kuradani Special Cherry Blossom Viewing Venue, home to the largest concentration of cherry trees, offers stunning views, including vistas of Shikoku on clear days, and attracts many visitors with cameras in hand. At the "Special Seafood Plaza – Youra Sea Farm" near Ochi Elementary School, you can savor local seafood like turban shells and oysters, as well as specialty dishes from Hotojima Island.
