JX Advanced Metals Sekizaki Mirai Kaiseikan Observatory and Planetarium
Exciting experiences await! Immerse yourself in the wonders of space
This interactive facility lets you explore the fascinating world of astronomy. The main hall is filled with engaging exhibits that you can both see and touch. On the second floor, you'll find Oita Prefecture's largest astronomical telescope, with an 83 cm aperture -- the second-largest in Japan's Kyushu region. During daytime observations, you can view the sun and, under the right conditions, even first-magnitude stars or Venus can be seen in the daytime sky. At night, the telescope reveals stunning views of the moon, planets, and stars. The brand-new digital planetarium is another must-see. In addition to programs that highlight the beauty of the starry sky, it can even project live footage captured by the observatory telescope, allowing visitors to experience special astronomical phenomena (reservations required). From the observation deck, you can enjoy sweeping views of Oita and Beppu, and on clear days, you can see Sada Misaki Cape in Ehime Prefecture, Shikoku.
