Nippo Coast Rock Oyster Festival

The Rock Oyster Front is Moving North!

The Nippo Coast refers to the coastline stretching along the Bungo Channel and Hyūga Sea, from central and southern Oita Prefecture to northern Miyazaki Prefecture. Extending approximately 120 kilometers, this scenic coastline is renowned for its dramatic ria coastlines, where rich mountains, rivers, and the sea intertwine in harmony.

Rock oysters from the Nippo Coast are known for their large size and rich, creamy flavor, thanks to the mineral-rich seawater carried by the Kuroshio Current and the nutrient-rich rainwater flowing down from the surrounding mountains.

Summer is the peak season for Nippo Coast rock oysters. As early summer arrives, the “rock oyster front” gradually moves northward, bringing these seasonal delicacies to their finest moment. Don’t miss the chance to savor the exceptionally large and delicious rock oysters of the Nippo Coast.

In Saiki City, a total of nine restaurants will begin serving special rock oyster dishes starting Saturday, May 9.
